My last caricatures for 'Kits' and 'Klap'

This was my last assignment for the children's magazines 'Kits' and 'Klap' for Publisher 'De Eenhoorn'. The 2 editors-in-chief (a couple) withdrew to take other paths and I decided to stop as well.
Over the course of 17 years I had completed 141 assignments for them, all in my spare time, as I also had a full-time job during the day. I thought it has been enough for a while, I longed for some real free time again, without obligations.
But I wanted to end in beauty: They asked for a caricature of the Belgian Prime Minister Verhofstadt, I also gave them 7 other ministers, plus the king and the queen. So I wanted to show that I wasn't burned out yet :-)
I had thought of a short break, but that fertile time never came back again...
Maybe a bit of a shame?...

Belgian ministers Louis Daerden (in front) and Louis Michel (behind), Yves Leterme, Didier Reynders, Elio Di Rupo, PRIME MINISTER GUY VERHOFSTADT,
Johan Vande Lanotte and Laurette Onkelinx. And on the wall Queen Paola and King Albert II.

This was another assignment for the children's newspaper 'Kits', very large, rotated, on a full page.
I didn't see it coming, but this was a milestone for me, the end of an adventure that had lasted 17 years...

I wanted to prove myself one more time. They ordered Prime Minister Verhofstadt, I gave them a whole pack of ministers and the king and queen.
Top left the post-it with my first sketch. Then I made individual caricatures and distributed them around...

I made photocopies of each in various formats and used the most appropriate in my final composition.

As always, I made a few A6 size photocopies of my final collage to try out a quick color test...

I also made a final size photocopy and blackened the back with a soft black pencil...

With that I traced all the figures onto the final painting block. With a red bic, so that I wouldn't forget anything! Painting could finally start...

Farewell and all the best, 'Kits' and 'Klap'! We had a good time together! :-)
 Bye!
